Yakitori Nanbantei and Yakitori Enmaru Again

It seems like Nanbantei has decided to relax their no photography rule.

Sticks and skewers

No one came forward to stop me from snapping away.  This kind of explain this photo-laden post. Another reason being we really ate a lot.

It was a happy dinner with the gang. We like similar food. Guess that's how we stay as friends.

Chicken Skin

My standard order since secondary school days.

Chicken with leeks and chicken liver

Such lovely hue of bloody red. Liver was tender and so very delicious.

Chicken Tailbone

Bones for the only guy at the table.

Bacon wrapped asparagus

Bacon and asparagus. They are best friends and a definite signature at Nanbantei.

Quail Eggs and Chicken Balls

The chicken balls, other signature were just as glorious.

Squid

Squid was a bit over-cooked and tough.

Pork belly and leeks

Really juicy and fragrant pork belly.

Ox tongue

A was out of town for work but I remembered him through his fave ox's tongue.

Bacon wrapped cherry tomatoes

Cherry tomatoes is yet another signature and must order. There are just too many good things at Nanbantei.

Salmon

I love salmon. So happy someone ordered a fleshy slab of omega 3.

Sardine Rice

Ate everything with my usual sardine rice. Most satisfying.

Sake

And I rounded the excellent meal with 2 small sips of sake. It was a very happy night.

Wagyu beef and wagyu tongue

For for comparison sake, we dropped by Enmaru the very next day. The wagyu beef was certainly top-notched and delicious beyond words. Nevertheless, ox tongue at Nanbantei was much more outstanding. I think it got more to do with how these babies were sliced than the way they were cooked.

Onions and asparagus

I did not snap a pic of the onions at Nanbantei but they tasted very similar at both places. Ha ha, what do I expect? Asparagus was tender and extra yummy with a dash of chili powder.

Pork belly wrapped asparagus and chicken lver

Pork belly was really gamey at Enmaru so Nanbantei's pork anything won hands down.

Caesar Salad

We got to choose from a decent range of refreshing and yummy salad. Good for us to wash down all that grease.

Rice ball

Really not very inspiring carbohydrate.

Chicken Soup

The conclusion is pretty clear. If I want good yakitori I will stick to good old Nanbantei but I will always go back to Enmaru for their wonderful chicken soup ;p If you haven't try the soup, what are you waiting for? GO!

How much do you usually spend per person? Like if you really want to stuff your face.

I get pretty stuffed with around $60 worth of yakitori at Nanbantei but need $20 more at Enmaru :) cost excluding drinks :) :)
